At Eagle Ridge Elementary I am offering an iMovie class after school for 3-6 graders. In small groups students will be creating an iMovie using the traits from the program Character Counts.

As an introduction to using their accounts, I'm having my class respond to my blog, a type of "where in the world", with guesses of where I am. I'm basing my clues on our Social Studies. A fun way to get started in the classroom.

At Desert Springs, we have a COMETS program in 6th grade. Students will be writing and making a movie about the joys of giving to the community.

I had taken a class back in October, where we visited the Navajo Nation. I then made a Podcast from all of my pictures, which were then viewed by my students during our unit on our studies of Native Americans.

In my intermediate music classes, we create music using Garageband. The students love searching for loops that stylistically mix well together. They are able to refine their pieces using dynamic fading, panning, and pitch embellishment. They can also compose their own loops using musical typing. We culminate the unit with a Garfield project where the students make a soundscape of a cartoon.

I am an avid fan of the new FOSS program. The hands on approach engages the students and as a result they learn more effectively. The FOSS website offers many interesting sites in the control room for the students to explore weather and water.

Laptops are an integral part of my classroom at Desert Springs. My students have all created keynote presentations and exported them as quicktime movies to post to their web pages that they created in computer class with Kim Bowman. I also use the internet for a variety of purposes like webquests, simulations, teacher resources, etc. We published books for our first grade buddies utilizing Lintor templates and clip art or images from the internet. I am currently working on a new webpage for my students to access for homework and resources.

After visiting the Navajo Nation this fall, I created a podcast on the Navajo culture for my students to view during our study of AZ's Native Americans. The podcast consisted of digital pictures that were taken along with music and narration.

csurratt,
Love your idea of having your students respond to your "Where in the World" blog. Have you considered adding the element of "Where in the World" with Google Earth? I included this online resource link that you may be interested in. Find everything you need in the left bar! Have fun!

This sounds like a good idea. I hope I have enough time to use it.
